One of the most common ways to network Ubuntu and Windows computers is to configure Samba as a File Server. This section covers setting up a Samba server to share files with Windows clients.
Samba is a client/server system and an implementation of the SMB protocol. It is usually used in Windows networks, but is supported by several operating systems. Use Samba if you need to share files very often and with different users, especially to Windows systems.
Installation:
The first step is to install the samba package. From a terminal prompt enter:
sudo apt-get install samba
